End of the Year event to conclude Shaler Area’s 50th anniversary celebrations
Shaler Area is so excited to host an End of the Year community event on Sunday, June 5, to conclude its yearlong 50th anniversary celebration.
 
Throughout the 2021-2022 school year, the district has hosted multiple activities and events to celebrate the milestone including special events during Homecoming weekend, a storytelling event, and a scavenger hunt to bring together current and former students, staff, and community members to celebrate the district’s 50th anniversary. The district’s 50th anniversary celebration plan won an Award of Honor in the Special Purpose Project category of the annual Excellence in Education Communications contest held by the Pennsylvania School Public Relations Association. 
 
The End of the Year Celebration will be the culminating event and take place from 1-4 p.m. at the Shaler Area High School campus. See all the details below: 

When: Sunday, June 5
Time: 1-4 p.m.
Where: Shaler Area High School, Biles Field (located behind the high school, 381 Wible Run Road)
 
Parking: Parking is available in the front high school parking lot (enter from the Wible Run Road side of campus) and at Matulevic Field (entrance off of Anderson Road). Handicapped parking is available near the tennis courts behind the high school (enter from Wible Run Road or Anderson Road). Please not that Paul Schweiger Way will not be available as a cut through between main parking areas. 
 
Food: Participants can enjoy a free cupcake and Italian ice to celebrate the district’s 50th anniversary. The event also will feature food for purchase from many popular food trucks, which will be located on Paul Schweiger Way between Biles Field and the tennis courts: 
  • PGH Crepes
  • Veggies N’ At
  • The Coop Chicken & Waffles
  • Rolling Meatballs
  • Herme’s 
  • Yovi’s Hot Dogs
 
What to expect:
Touch a Truck & Fire Truck Rides – Come explore a variety of police, fire and municipal vehicles in the parking lot adjacent to the tennis courts, including police vehicles, fire trucks, an ambulance, a sanitation truck, Mack truck, front loader, and John Deere tractor. Fire truck rides will take place from the parking lot in front of the high school. 
 
Games and Activities – Enjoy a variety of family-friendly carnival games and activities, including a Dunk Tank, balloon artist, face painters, photo booth, a DJ and more.
 
Recreational Opportunities – There will be several recreational opportunities available for participants of all skill levels. Come play pickleball, cornhole, volleyball or dek hockey; join the Spikeball tournament; or try out the new disc golf course on the high school’s campus. 
 
The Shaler Area School District was officially sanctioned by the Pennsylvania Department of Education as a merged school district in July 1971. The district was created by joining the K-12 school districts of the Borough of Etna, Borough of Millvale, and Shaler Township, and the K-8 school district of Reserve Township. Shaler Area School District began its operations in the 1971-72 school year.
